James Woods doesn’t get to play many romantic leads–and he certainly doesn’t get the girl in this handsome, if occasionally hollow, remake of Out of the Past. As the mover-and-shaker lover of Rachel Ward, he loses her–if only temporarily–to ex-football star Jeff Bridges. Woods captures the insecurity behind a man of power who understands that the women in his life love his money first. But he also shows us the real tenderness that kept Ward close when money lost its glitter. Bridges is at his best, playing the should-have-been trying to keep his future from repeating his dead-end past. Look for actress Jane Greer (who played the Ward role in the 1947 original opposite Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas) in a small role. –Marshall Fine
The Winter Bake Shop and the two PaB Christmas boxes came from my parents.
The Prince of Persia set came from my friend Paul.
The rest of the sets were purchased today from my local Baybrook LEGO Brand Retail Store, all pruchased at 50% off.
The Helicopter and Limousine set ($15) and the little sports car ($5) are "gifts" from my son and daughter, as I used the "coupon" I got in my Christmas present from them. The coupon stated that I was to go to the LEGO store with my son and purchase a present for myself. How thoughtful of them. 🙂
The other sets were purchased with money from all those nice people who have bought instructions from my Bricklink shop. Thanks to all of you!
As it turns out, most of the LEGO stores have been without the Helicopter and Limousine sets for quite some time – my local one hasn’t seen it in months, literally. Minutes after walking into the store to take advantage of the huge LEGO sale, someone walked up to the register to return the Helicopter and Limousine set. The LEGO store employees took it from the customer, scanned it, and immediately handed it to me, since they knew I wanted it. Still factory sealed and everything! Fate smiled upon my LEGO purchase today.
